This blog aims to shed light on the purpose of feeding tubes, dispel common myths, and emphasize their significance as vital tools for nutrition, enabling individuals to lead fulfilling lives
Understanding Feeding Tubes:
What are Feeding Tubes? Feeding tubes are medical devices designed to deliver necessary nutrients directly into the stomach or small intestine. They serve as lifelines for individuals who face challenges in consuming food orally, ensuring that they receive the essential nourishment their bodies require.
The Purpose and Importance: The primary purpose of feeding tubes is to provide a reliable and controlled method of delivering nutrition to those who are unable to eat or drink adequately. This could be due to various medical conditions such as neurological disorders, gastrointestinal issues, or conditions affecting swallowing abilities. Feeding tubes are not a sign of weakness but rather a practical solution to ensure proper nourishment.
Common Misconceptions: Addressing misconceptions is crucial in fostering understanding. One common misconception is that individuals with feeding tubes are unable to enjoy a fulfilling life. In reality, feeding tubes empower people to lead active, engaged lives, pursuing their passions and contributing to their communities.
Another misconception is that the use of feeding tubes is solely reserved for end-of-life care. On the contrary, many individuals, including children and adults, use feeding tubes as a long-term solution to manage chronic conditions and maintain their overall health.
Empowering Lives: Emphasize the transformative impact feeding tubes can have on people's lives. By ensuring proper nutrition, these devices enable individuals to thrive, participate in daily activities, and pursue their goals. From pursuing education and careers to engaging in social activities, feeding tubes empower individuals to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.
Breaking Stigmas: Encourage a shift in societal perceptions by breaking down stigmas associated with feeding tubes. It's essential to recognize the diversity of experiences and stories among individuals using feeding tubes, celebrating their resilience and uniqueness.
Understanding feeding tubes goes beyond the medical aspect; it involves recognizing the strength, resilience, and determination of individuals who use them. By dispelling misconceptions and acknowledging their vital role in promoting health and well-being, we contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society. Feeding tubes are not just tools; they are lifelines that enable individuals to savor the richness of life in their own unique way.

Our 6 year old grandson has a feeding tube. He has multiple congenital issues that have prevented him from talking and walking. He also has a chromosome 12 deletion which has left him with a limited mental capacity. He tends to “play “ or pick at his button if left just wearing a regular t-shirt. We have always dressed him in onesies which has limited his ability to get to his button, however he is fast out growing an 18 months size onesies and we have had very little success finding larger sizes. Do you all make onesies or some kind of belly band that would help with his issues? I foresee this being an ongoing problem as he grows bigger.
Thank you for all you do for special need individuals, our grandson is very precious to us.
