Spoonie Threads Company History

A letter from Dr. Julie Sanchez and Marta Elena Cortez-Neavel, explaining why our company split in January 2021:

Abilitee Adaptive Wear is excited to announce changes that we believe will allow us to better meet the needs of our customers, and to pursue growth opportunities across the country.

Over five years ago, we started with a single idea of designing and creating clothing that was inclusive and accessible to everyone regardless of their needs. When Dr. Julie Sanchez and Artist/Designer Marta Elena Cortez-Neavel first launched the business, they had no idea of the vast need or demand across all ages. The Company has grown very quickly. With every new product that Abilitee has launched, ideas and requests from our customers continue to be received.

Based on the feedback from our customers, and the tremendous growth opportunities across all age groups, we have decided to split Abilitee Adaptive Wear into two companies. Julie will be launching the new adaptive brand Spoonie Threads and will be focusing on customers up to age 18, and Marta Elena will be focusing on customers over the age of 18, and will continue doing business under the Abilitee Adaptive Wear brand.

Our passion and dedication to the adaptive market has only grown over the last few years, and we are excited to share more developments with you in the future!
