2025 Word of the Year: Motivate, Inspire and Challenge Yourself

Posted by Saba Kamaras on

Have you ever tried focusing on one powerful word for the year instead of making traditional (and often short-lived) New Year’s resolutions? This concept, called the Word of the Year, is about choosing a word to inspire, challenge, and guide your journey.

For 2025, Spoonie Threads has chosen a word that reflects our mission and spirit: THRIVE.

To thrive means to grow, flourish, and succeed—despite challenges or limitations. It’s about embracing your unique path, celebrating small wins, and finding joy in the process. This year, we’re leaning into the idea of thriving, not just surviving.

Want to choose your own word for the year? Here are four tips to guide you:

4 Tips to Help You Choose Your Word of the Year

1. Reflect
Think about the past year. What would you like to experience more of in the year ahead? What areas of your life feel ready for growth?

2. Visualize
Picture your ideal day. How do you want to feel when you wake up? What do you hope to carry with you as the day ends?

3. Explore
Write down words that come to mind. Don’t hold back—use a thesaurus if needed! Sometimes the perfect word emerges when exploring related ideas.

4. Focus
Look for patterns in your list. Do certain themes stand out? Narrow it down to one word that feels meaningful and motivating. Imagine using this word as your daily mantra—does it resonate?
